Can Manuel play TE?

Post by WshSkins22 »

He has everything a TE needs to possess... hands, speed, blocking ability, maybe Gibbs picked him to fill our TE need...Ive heard about him being backup for cooley but why not starter at TE
" But you should've seen Joe (Gibbs) when they said he couldn't coach anymore...his chest puffed out and said..i dont care what it takes, were not leaving here without another ring." Coach Joe Bugel

He's a little too light to play TE, no?

I say he's probably notgoing to play much TE...

If White can play TE, McCune can bulk up a bit and play DE and, and Broughton turns out to be the great short yardage back I think he can be I'll take back all the evil things I've been saying about Gibbs.

I heard Gibbs on the NFL network in an interview after the draft and he said he would consider using White at H-Back.

Yeah, White definitely sounds like more of an H-Back than a TE.

I don't think McCune was brought in here for pass rush. He's here to provide depth at LB and play special teams.

Let me state this before I make my next comment, just so everyone knows where I stand.

1st - I'm a huge Cooley fan, loved what he did a H-Back last year and I'm truly excited to watch him develop into the great player we all know he will be for many years to come.

Now, that being said I'll throw this out there. If White excels (I'm mean real plays amazing) in training camp and the pre-season at H-Back. Would or have Gibbs' & Co. already consider moving the already sure handed 6-3, 265 lb Cooley to the TE position?

I know the H-Back spot is a big part of Gibbs' offensive scheme, but having a guy like Cooley playing TE, you'd kind of be forced to get the ball to the TE even more. Also with Cooley's wrestling background, he would probably turn into an excellent blocking TE.

Please don't respond by saying he's to short or slow to play the position, as he is easily comparable to the following TEs. Some in size, others with speed and all with hands.

Alge Crumpler 6-2, 262
Jermaine Wiggins6-2, 260 - similar speed
Eric Johnson 6-3, 256 - similar speed
Dallas Clark 6-3, 252
Daniel Graham 6-3, 257
Randy McMichael 6-3, 250
Marcus Pollard 6-3, 247 - similar speed
Billy Miller 6-3, 245 - similar speed

I think it's a good thought...Cooley is certainly big enough and tough enough to play there. He played TE in college. If White can play the HBack position pretty well, why not? I like it. I'm thinking Gibbs will want to find a TE that is mainly a blocker, hopefully, he can find one after June 2. I'm not sure we have a good solid blocking TE on our roster now...maybe we could put Ray Brown out there as an extra blocker...just kidding.

A lot of things would have to happen for this to play out. First, Cooley has great hands but I am not sure that he is already the blocker that he would need to be to hold the TE position under our scheme. White has a way to go before he understands all the schemes of a H-back.

Not impossible in the long run, but unlikely at present.

There may be other candidates at TE this season.

How come nobody likes Royal?

He's big, he's young, and he's already a decent TE. I'm perfectly comfortable with Royal as the TE and Cooley at H-Back.

I'm cool with that! Royal really came around at the end of last year. It's his job to lose but if someone better steps up, than I'm cool with that too.

Considering our smurfs at WR, I hope Gibbs thinks we need a possession received at TE, not just a blocker. I know I do. I would love to see Cooley thrown to all day at TE.

If Royal can improve as much as a possession receiver as he improved last year as a red zone threat, I'll have to revise my bleak predictions for our record this season. However, I can't see him hauling in seventy or so passes this year, which I what I think we need a TE to do if we are to get away with Moss and Patten at WR.
