Renders of what the next gen is supposed to be capable of...

Post by Chris Luva Luva »

These renders were made in MAYA but are supposedly possible on next gen consoles. I know for sure that the clarity won't be there but I don't see why not. I'll hold my breath until some official unveilings.

However it does excite me that the next Grand Theft Auto could be this nice looking. Congress will flip!

I just drooled all over my keyboard!

Wow are thos graphics awesome...

I hope gamemakers keep their Aristotle in mind when they make the next generation of games, in order of importance the elements of a tragedy are:

(1) plot
(2) character
(3) diction (the choice of style, imagery, etc.)
(4) thought (the character's thoughts and the author's meaning)
(5) spectacle (all the visual effects; Aristotle considered this to be the least important element)
(6) song.

While this was all intended for stage I think it holds true to games. Plot and Characters are extremely important that's good gameplay. Diction and thought are other important story elements and lastly special effects (song and spectacle) enter into it...

That's the part that gets the most effort nowadays. After that is cameos and product placement, and if there's time left they'll tack on a story.

I blame you people for this. You weren't playing games when they were 2d scrollers, they were still for nerds. Now I've got to wade through all your Resident Evil/GTA/Halo clones to get to anything decent.

Well don't blame me, as I'm still a Tecmo Superbowl fan. And even I experienced the days when it hurt my social status to admit to liking computer games at all.

What about Pong? Journey Escape? Combat?

I could go on ... Atari 2600 era.

I did have some mean Techmo Bowl games in college. I transitioned into nintendo for a while. Don't worry - I have a PS2 now... :-)

Those graphics are amazing though CLL!!

Well don't forget these are not real-time shots. These are rendered in Maya but are supposedly doable on next generation hardware.

I learned from the previous generation launch to take such shots with a grain of salt. However we should be able to get close to this but some of the effects will be faked. That reflection of the car on the tanker wouldnt probally be there, but just a shiny effect.

Im still excited.

Get the high def, anti-aliasing, and normal mapping all working in harmony, and maybe you get a shot that looks half that good.

I have a great idea for a new video game... the arena is a ping pong table, and you have these paddles for 2 or 4 players, and you move them up and down to strike the ball... you get a point when your opponent misses.

I'm still working on the graphics, though.
