Police Academy

Post by SkinsChic »

I was wondering if anyone has ever attended a Citizen's Police Academy? I signed up in March and have attended two of 4 classes so far (missed two because of family emergency) and I'm going back tonight for my 3rd out of 12 classes. It is so interesting. It's 12 weeks long (every Thursday night - 6:30 - 9:30) Tonight we are covering Crime Scene Investigations - I can't wait. I regret having to miss Forensics last week though.

This is sponsored by the Anne Arundel County Police Department and is free to the public upon acceptance of your application. They do it to keep the public informed and hope that we spread the word and keep our neighborhoods aware of different laws, situations, etc.

On June 9 - we have a graduation, receive a class photo and a certificate.

I would suggest this course to anyone who has any interest in law enforcement, etc.

(what ? no emoticon with a police hat ??)

Hope the family emergency wasn't anything major, Ter...
Anyway, I signed up...My Associates Degree was supposed to give me a foot in the door.
My handicap left me in the cold though. They really stress the hearing and vision thing.
Got the t-shirt, though ! :)

Good for you Terri,

from my friend who has his "dad badge". His son went to the NY police acacemy the same month mine went to boot camp. And now that former tean-aged squirt is a grown up police officer. He patrols central Brooklyn, and it's not fun when people want to spit at you for keeping the law.

Dont' let use tease you. Peace-insisting citizens make a neighborhood safe. When someone has to call the cops, it's already too late.

Well done.

Regards,

John

NC...you crack me up...

TC - it was a tough emergency but we made through AOK - thanks for asking.

Thanks Welch :-)

Now...last nite...in CSI Class...we went to crime scenes that were set up and yep..."Yours Truly" found the dead body while everyone else was still concentrating on the abandoned car !!

They also told us a sad story about 4 Canadian Mounties who were killed by one man who then shot himself. It was horrible and we saw a tribute to the fallen heroes and their funeral.
It was really sad.

Here's the story address - http://primetimecrime.com/Recent/Police/RCMP4Killed.htm

Hey, do you get to roust any hookers? Now that's fun! (I went on a "ride along" with a State Police buddy of mine and that's all we did all night.)

You and a cop went trolling for hookers while he was on duty?

Did the state pay or did you have to pay for it yourselves?

Picking up hookers on an expense account. Now that's livin'.

Nah. He was workin' . . . I was just havin' fun. I think the hookers we saw that night had 25 teeth collectively among them....which, considering their profession, is probably not necessarily a bad thing.

No....we've gone from a serious class that I'm taking to Justice Hog chasing hookers. Amazing how these threads get so off track with one simple comment.

Hey...sorry bout that. I guess, although my comment was kinda/sorta on topic, it resulted in a whole new tangent.

Seriously, I wish they would offer these types of classes everywhere. I think they would give John Q. Public a better sense of what it's like to be a police officer....and how much they should be admired for what they do.

Unless....of course....they're a rookie giving some guy a Reckless Driving charge for driving 89/55.

Class was great last nite. A very high energy officer lectured us about the use of force - why, when, what tools, etc. I actually held a couple of guns, leg irons, etc. Interesting.

Do they teach you any thing on laws - search & seizure, arrest v. detaining, etc.?
