Madden

Post by air_hog »

I hate Madden. Not John Madden, but his video game Madden. If you guys are into football videogames you well know that Madden and ESPN Football are the two leading competitors. However, from now on, there won't be an ESPN Football. That's right, Madden bought the rights to the NFL Players Inc. which means only THEY can use real players, teams, and stadiums. This is the most idiotic thing that could ever of happened. If anyone has ever tried ESPN and opened their eyes, it is obvious that it is 500x better than Madden (and its only 20$). For the first time in my life, next year i will not be owning a football game, because from this day on i will never purchase an EA Sports game, and the thought of no football really disturbs me. Well done Madden, well done.

I despise and hate EA. I've said it more than once on here that Madden is stale and that was with some good competition from ESPN. Now Madden won't have any competition and people think all will be well. What if they decided to jack the price up to $60-$70 bucks for Madden 2006?

Look what happened with Madden 2002 when it 1st came out on PS2. They took off all the features of the PS1 games and just made it prettier then re-introduced the features back to us through the following years with minor additions.

I'm seriously thinking about not buying anymore Maddens and just keep my ESPN 2K5.

I hate John Madden, not the game, the obnoxious football commentator.

I really dont like the move that EA made.

Madden needs competition, but the NFL and the players all agree, Madden is a better game of simulation football.

ESPN is good eye candy but pales incomaparisom to the real football experience. My 2 cents

I'm with ya. I will never ever buy an EA Sports product for the rest of my life. I'm sticken with ESPN 2k5 for the next six years. Plus im in my 3rd season and Sean Taylor and Fred Smoot are both ranked 96 apiece

Don't jump to any conclusions about bashing madden. This was the NFLs fault:

http://money.cnn.com/2004/12/14/comment ... mn_gaming/

Despite conspiracy theories that have sprouted up on various message boards, the league put out a call for bids this spring for the exclusive license. Among those bidders was Take Two.
Take Two made 2k5

I don't like this one bit for fear of a negative impact on the games and the prices. However, to blame EA is wrong, the NFL sought out this deal to get the most money possible. EA just did the smart business move.

You guys would be surprised who visits message boards.

EA needs to back off of the potential backlash.

I know this was the NFL's fault, but i don't care i still hate EA Sports. What would be sweet is if remeber when LaVar did not allow his name to be in the games? We'll all the players shouold do that to screw Madden. But they wont becaue Madden was the best game when they were in their youth. And i wonder what THE John Madden thinks of this?

The only way to keep your name out of a game is to drop out of the NFLPA. Do that and chances are you're not going to get any help from them the next time you get fined or suspended.

I can't believe ea could pull this kind of crap! I was a medden fan since 2001 but this year i decided to try something new and i got espn nfl 2k5. needless to say it was far superior to madden this year. Some people believe madden is superior but what ea did will kill the nature of gaming. without competition, there will be no need to innovate and the games won't change very much.

you guys honestly like ESPN instead of Madden?

I bought ESPN 2K5 this season because I'm cheap and all I could afford was 19.99 for a game. I gave it a shot and I have been sorely disappointed. The graphics are good but for me a sports game lives and dies with the franchise mode... and the franchise mode on ESPN... SUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKSSSSSSSSS

I have been playing Madden 2004 all season, the owner mode is amazing, I love being able to build a coaching staff.

The depth charts are a pain in the neck to set up, drafting is an absolute crapshoot, the game is simply not as good as even the first Madden that was released for PS2.

Then again, if Acclaim hadn't gotten lazy with their quarterback club series back i nthe day we wouldn't be having this conversation. There's no question that Quarterback club OWNED Madden for a few years until Acclaim kept releasing the same game over and over and over again... they could have been the champions of the video game world. They've also dropped the ball on the All-Star baseball series which was the greatest baseball game on N64. Now EA has taken over that genre as well. But I'm not complaining. Like Madden, MVP Baseball is a far superior product.

Regardless, competition = innovation. I don't care what EA says, they felt pressure from ESPN. VC put out a very good game that was at least comparable to Madden and given a year or two would be just as good. I found this move to be cowardly by EA but I guess I can't blame them either.

The consumer loses with this deal. You fanboys who are riding EA's DI** need to hop off because they won't be sharing that money with you, they could careless about you. You should care moreso about what effort EA has been putting into their games with competition and how they will without it.

This is the lounge, not the smack forum Chris.

Am I riding EA's d--- because I feel they have a superior product?

This exclusive license was going to get sold one way or the other. Yes, the consumer loses some, but this was a move mad out of self preservation. If EA didn't buy it then someone else would have.

That said I'm glad it went to the better company if it had to be sold at all.

As far as EA's effort goes they made two groundbreaking additions in 2002 and 2003. Mimi-camp and Owner Mode. How much more would you expect them to do?

I would assume if it's not an EA game then it is "dead in the water".

I felt the same way about ESPN. The franchise sucks.

I like games for replayabilty and 2K5 didnt have it. The graphics were good, but that was it.

Whats really funny is 2K5 was only $19.00 and they could not sell nearly as many copies in two months as Madden sold in the first two weeks.

One other thing that is funny, EA has slowed commercial ads and 2K5 ads are still going strong, I wonder why?

I love football and when someone makes a game better than Madden i will switch, but until then, 'Madden Power!

Who called your name out? When did I put the name Skinsfan55 in my post? I see where you may have thought that because I quoted you but it wasn't a personal attack. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

So I apologize for the misunderstanding.
