{"id":937,"date":"2008-11-26T14:35:53","date_gmt":"2008-11-26T14:35:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thehogs.net\/blogs\/?p=937"},"modified":"2016-12-18T23:34:32","modified_gmt":"2016-12-19T03:34:32","slug":"a-win-is-a-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/the-hogs.net\/blogs\/2008\/11\/26\/a-win-is-a-win\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;A win is a win&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you haven&#8217;t heard it enough already, it&#8217;s a phrase that you&#8217;ll continue to hear up until the game against the Giants this coming Sunday.\u00a0 On the surface, it&#8217;s true.\u00a0 Sunday&#8217;s game against the Seahawks netted another point in the win column for the Redskins.\u00a0 But it goes\u00a0a bit deeper than that.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You can characterize the Seahawks in any manner you please.\u00a0\u00a0They could be a\u00a0tough team that hung in there and played above their 2-8 record, and it took all of the Redskins&#8217; efforts and talents to beat them back while on the road.\u00a0 Or they&#8217;re a sad excuse of a team, and the clumsy performance by the Redskins almost cost them what should have been an easy win against a team that deserves its 2-8 record.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I saw what you probably saw &#8211; a Redskins team that can&#8217;t seem to finish drives or protect the quarterback.\u00a0 A team that gives up frustrating points in the closing minutes of the half.\u00a0 A team that seems to lack confidence.\u00a0 A team that, right now, is not playing well enough to get into the playoffs.\u00a0 Assuming that we beat Cincinnati, San Francisco and a struggling Eagle team &#8211;\u00a0teams with a combined record of 12-22-1 &#8211; that still leaves us at 10 wins, which may not be enough to get a wild-card spot.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll need to either beat the Giants this weekend, or Baltimore next weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And in order to do that\u00a0the Redskins\u00a0will need to\u00a0step up and win a game where\u00a0 win is not just a win, but it&#8217;s a BIG win.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Memo to the Seahawks uniform dudes:<\/strong>\u00a0 The bright green hats the players were wearing on the sidelines?\u00a0 All kinds of ugly.\u00a0 Like, 80&#8217;s ugly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt Hasselwhiner.\u00a0 <\/strong>I know the guy is a competitor, but he whines like my four-year old after every play.\u00a0 He&#8217;s got to be in the top five of all-time whiny quarterbacks.\u00a0 At one point, he whined to the head ref, who had this sly smile on his face as if to say &#8216;Oh, you agan.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hello, my old friend.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0 It was great to see Shawn Springs out there again, and it seemed like the secondary played with a renewed swagger.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.east-inflatables.com.au\/Purchase-Jumping-Castle-on-sale-2-b0\/\">inflatable jumping castle<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Speaking of which&#8230;<\/strong>\u00a0 I complained last week how there was a lack of corner blitzes, and it seems that the return of Springs means a return of just that.\u00a0 Even Rogers had a couple of turns rushing the passer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where&#8217;s my red flag?<\/strong>\u00a0 It was difficult to tell without a replay, but I swear that\u00a0a Redskins&#8217; punt in the first quarter hit a Seahawk on the back of the leg, and was then recovered by the Redskins.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I bet he doesn&#8217;t use Old Spice Swagger&#8230;<\/strong>\u00a0 Either Jason Campbell needs a jersey that fits better, or he needs to find\u00a0a less itchy deodorant.\u00a0 He was pulling and tugging at the jersey below his throwing arm all day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m buying what he&#8217;s sellering.\u00a0 <\/strong>Mike Sellers getting more involved in the offense can only be a good thing.\u00a0 When he gets his shoulders square to the direction he&#8217;s heading, he&#8217;s tough to take down &#8211; just ask Brian Dawkins.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Balls deep.\u00a0 <\/strong>Also nice to see a few more deep throws this week.\u00a0 As long as JC makes smart decisions (i.e not throwing deep into double coverage), then it&#8217;ll only help open up the offense a bit more, and maybe give Moss a bit more room on those slants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>*&#8230;&#8230;..<\/strong>\u00a0 Anyone else hold their breath when JC jumped over the line on a keeper to get the first down early in the second quarter?\u00a0 I know I did.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sloppy McTuckyourshirtin.\u00a0 <\/strong>As a Pee Wee football coach, I feel like I&#8217;m constantly telling my kids to tuck their shirts in.\u00a0 However, as long as Portis grabs on to\u00a0his shirt tail to help follow his blocks, Mike Sellers is allowed to keep his shirt untucked.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Let me just say&#8230;<\/strong>\u00a0 that whatever Josh Wilson did to\u00a0inspire a left hook from Santana Moss, I&#8217;m sure he deserved it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unsung beast.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0 Lorenzo Alexander quietly had a great game.\u00a0 He hustled to help stuff the run, knocked a guy&#8217;s helmet off on a special teams tackle, and forced some great pressure on Hasselbeck, forcing him to step up into a critical sack in the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hail Mary, full of Moss.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Curiously, the hail mary at the end of the first half used a four receiver set &#8211; Thrash, Randle El, Cooley and Thomas &#8211; no Moss, the guy who has probably the best traffic hands of anyone on the team.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LL\u00a0loves MH.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Landry now has three career interceptions &#8211; all off of Hasselbeck.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Not-so-special teams.\u00a0 <\/strong>Special teams had a very off day.\u00a0 Allowing long gains on kickoff returns, poor punting, and a missed field goal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ugly Slide of the Week Award Goes to&#8230;<\/strong>\u00a0 Jason Campbell (it was unanimous).<\/p>\n<p>To be honest, I&#8217;m not looking forward to next week &#8211; and it has nothing to do with facing the 10-1 Giants.\u00a0 They are obviously the better team, and I&#8217;d be happy with a close game and a better showing by the offense.\u00a0 Should the Redskins lose, and it seems like the Cowboys will beat Seattle, it&#8217;ll (temporarily) put them ahead of us in the standings, and\u00a0sure, the inevitable &#8216;Dallas is awesome&#8217;
