Last night, I had the chance to head across the Chesapeake Bay to take in the 9th Annual Mickey Steele Poker Tournament, which honors a fallen friend of former Redskins quarterback Mary Rypien and raises money for charity.<\/p>\n
Throughout the night, Redskins legends streamed in and out of the Fisherman’s Inn in Grasonville, Md. Players ranging from Rypien to Gary Clark to Reggie Branch to Jeff Bostic were in attendance.<\/p>\n
Attending the event for my employer, What’s Up? Magazine, I was able to catch up with Rypien and Bostic as well as Ricky Sanders and general manager Bruce Allen.<\/p>\n
We covered a variety of topics, including the tournament and how the the current Redskins squad will fare in 2013 and the debate surrounding the team name. Bostic did not hold back about his feelings on the team name.<\/p>\n

Several Redskins legends attended the 9th Annual Mickey Steele Texas Hold \u2018em Tournament at Fisherman\u2019s Inn & Crab Deck in Grasonville, an event preceding the Mickey Steele Celebrity Golf Tournament in Queenstown.<\/p>\n
The events are held to honor the memory of Mickey Steele, a friend of former Redskins quarterback and Super Bowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien, who passed away from leukemia.<\/p>\n
The poker tournament required a $200 buy-in and included raffles and live and silent auctions for Redskins, Capitals, Ravens, and other sports memorabilia.<\/p>\n
Tom O\u2019Farrell, who runs the golf tournament, said that the idea for a poker tournament originated when their first golf tournament was rained out and those in attendance just started to play cards.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe figured we\u2019d kill two birds with one stone and make it easier and more attractive for (the Redskins) to come to the golf tournament and also have a chance to have a more low-key setting to get together and commiserate,\u201d O\u2019Farrell says.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
