The Washington Commanders activated cornerback Trey Amos<\/a> off the physically unable to perform (PUP)list. Defensive end Dorance Armstrong and punter Tress Way<\/a> returned from their own injury lists today as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amos Returns From a Broken Leg<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Amos fractured his fibula in Week 10 of the 2025 season, ending his rookie year early. Before the injury, he had emerged as one of Washington’s best defensive backs, starting eight of 10 games and recording 32 tackles with six pass breakups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defensive coordinator Daronte Jones<\/a> praised Amos’s work ethic during his recovery<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Trey has been attacking everything that we put in front of him both mentally, physically.” \u2014 Daronte Jones <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Amos missed all of OTAs and minicamp this offseason. The Commanders placed him on active\/PUP on July 25, just before the full squad reported to camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Armstrong Eases Back In<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Armstrong suffered a knee injury in Week 7 last season against Dallas, an injury that ended his year despite leading the team in sacks at the time. Head coach Dan Quinn said the plan is to bring Armstrong back gradually, starting with walkthroughs rather than full practice reps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quinn acknowledged the difficulty of Armstrong’s recovery<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“They’ve worked really hard to get back into this space.” \u2014 Dan Quinn<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Way Returns From Pectoral Injury<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Way’s absence came from a different list entirely. A pectoral injury sidelined the veteran punter shortly before training camp opened, landing him on the non-football injury list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Way has played in almost 200 consecutive games for Washington (196). The perrenial fan favorite is entering his 13th season for the franchise, and is by far the longest tenured player on the club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who’s Still Inactive?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With all three aforementioned players activated, defensive lineman Deatrich Wise Jr. is now the only Commander remaining on active\/PUP, as he continues recovering from a torn quadriceps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wise suffered a torn quadriceps in Week 2 of the 2025 season during a Thursday Night Football matchup against the Green Bay Packers. The injury ended his season early.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting Amos and Armstrong back matters a lot for a defense that finished last in the league in takeaways in 2025. Both players figure to play significant roles once they’re built back up to full practice reps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
