Follow along to see the irony<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\nI believe that part of the motivation for Shanahan\u2019s handling of the Haynesworth affair is the reported complete lack of respect demonstrated by Haynesworth towards Shanahan, or the management of the Redskins. Respect is clearly important to Shanahan\u2026 I understand that\u2026 and I\u2019m ok with it\u2026 While there were plenty of fans who wanted to see Shanahan flex some, and give Haynesworth some face saving opportunities to get onto the field, I think that there was still agreement among the fan base that, ultimately, Shanahan was on the right side of the issue\u2026 and that Haynesworth was behaving badly. Haynesworth was trouble for the Redskins, a vestige of the poor judgement of the prior administration\u2026 which had to be dealt with.<\/p>\n
So, it was largely about Respect. Respect for the contract he signed. Respect for his word, as a man and as a player. Respect for the needs of the organization, of the coaches\u2026 and of his team\u2026 or rather, the utter lack of it that, we feel,\u00a0was demonstrated by Haynesworth in his dealings over this past season and pre-season.airblown inflatables canada<\/p>\n
I understood. I wanted the best defensive lineman in the league on the field\u2026 but I understood.<\/p>\n
Respect. Shanahan expected it. Shanahan demanded it. Many would say that he had earned and deserved it\u2026 Haynesworth ultimately refused\u2026 and has been banished. I understand. Good for the Redskins\u2026 good for Shanahan. Let\u2019s put that drama to bed. (or not\u2026)<\/p>\n
Shouldn\u2019t respect be a two way highway?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\nThis brings us to the there<\/span> irony\u2026 this brings us to McNabb. The McNabb that Shanahan personally sought, and obtained, at some cost, OBTW\u2026<\/p>\nDonovan McNabb has been somewhat inconsistent in his play. He\u2019s had good games\u2026 he\u2019s had bad games.\u00a0 He\u2019s killed a few worms\u2026 he\u2019s threaded a few balls into the outstretched arms of streaking receivers. He\u2019s taken bad sacks\u2026 he\u2019s turned a few sure sacks into first downs. Yet, this is all consistent with Donovan McNabb\u2026 it\u2019s what he is\u2026 it\u2019s what he does\u2026 Did Shanahan, the \u201cstudent\u201d of the NFL, not know this when he went and pulled this trade off???<\/p>\n
Through it all, McNabb\u2019s demeanor has been rock steady. \u00a0He\u2019s deferred complements onto his supporting cast. He\u2019s accepted blame, even when it was not his. \u00a0He\u2019s been gracious in victory, and in defeat.\u00a0 The consummate professional\u2026\u00a0 The very picture of respect.<\/p>\n
Why, then, has this coaching administration, so sensitive of it\u2019s own requirement for respect from it\u2019s players, been so completely disrespectful in it\u2019s handling of this man?<\/p>\n
If any player in the NFL deserves to receive respectful treatment\u2026 and a modicum of professional deference\u2026 it is McNabb.<\/p>\n
I am currently embarrassed for my team\u2026 and, I\u2019m now finding it difficult to gather a thimbleful of respect for this head coach, whom I once considered among the greats.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m still on the Redskins bandwagon. I\u2019m still trying to maintain some optimism\u2026 that Shanahan will pull this through\u2026 but multiple indicators are suggesting that this is falling apart. In the end, why would anyone treat Donovan McNabb as though he were a Haynesworth-like pariah????<\/p>\n
Anyone?<\/p>\n
Typically, as a fan, I have always felt that this was purely the domain of coaches.\u00a0 I have no need to be aware of the internal politics, the discussions, the day to day data that goes into decision making… those are, typically, business decisions.<\/p>\n
But, not this time.\u00a0 This is a man, whom, except for the lack of a Superbowl Victory, might be a candidate for the Hall of Fame.\u00a0 While I have no illusions that one shall be forthcoming, treating this man, this badly, requires an explanation.\u00a0 Donovan McNabb deserves better.<\/p>\n
This beleaguered fan base, among the most dedicated in the world, deserves better, as well.<\/p>\n
Irony?\u00a0 For years, we’ve been begging Mr Snyder to hire a real management team, and to get his fingers out of the pudding…\u00a0 well… he did…\u00a0and, the circus simply got bigger.\u00a0 Ugh…<\/p>\n
