Sometimes after a tough loss – especially one like the 24-8 pasting Sunday from the Philadelphia Eagles – it’s better to go with a retro wallpaper. It’s perhaps even more appropriate, when nobody really stood out<\/a> as having played well in the game.<\/p>\n

So today’s wallpapers are to honor one of the greatest groups to ever don the burgundy and gold – The Posse<\/em>.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In that retro vibe, it is a desktop wallpaper instead of the mobile versions that have graced these pages for the whole season.<\/p>\n

The Posse<\/h2>\n

The Posse<\/em> consisted of three wide receivers – Art Monk<\/a>, Gary Clark<\/a>, and Ricky Sanders<\/a>. They were arguably the greatest WR1, WR2, and WR3 combination in league history. They are most certainly the best wide receiver corps that Washington has ever had. And they’ve had a few (shout out to The Fun Bunch).<\/p>\n

The modern game is really emphasizing the pass game, and receivers, but there hasn’t been a triumvirate quite the likes of The Posse<\/em>\u00a0just yet.<\/p>\n

In their prime, they posted numbers that were absolutely scandalous at the time. Even with modern offenses and a big lean to throwing downfield, teams have yet to have a three-headed monster that was quite so difficult to contend with.<\/p>\n

Only Monk made it to the Hall Of Fame<\/a> – but Clark is regularly mentioned as one of the best NFL players that isn’t<\/em> in the Hall. He probably should be.<\/p>\n

The three of them were together for two of Washington’s three Super Bowl wins (XXII<\/a>, XXVI<\/a>).<\/p>\n

In 1989, all three of them had over 1000 yards receiving in the same season, and for a total of 3553 yards.<\/p>\n

The Numbers<\/h2>\n

Ricky Sanders<\/h3>\n

Sanders was with the Redskins from 1986 to 1993.<\/p>\n

In his eight seasons in Washington, he played in 117 games. He pulled down 414 passes for 5854 yards. He had 36 touchdowns. He also played two seasons for the Atlanta Falcons, giving him career numbers of 134 games, 483 receptions, 6477 yards and 37 touchdowns.<\/p>\n

Sanders could have easily been selected as the MVP of Super Bowl XXII when he caught 9 passes for 193 yards. He posted an unbelievable 168 yards in one quarter – The Quarter<\/strong><\/em>. He also had 46 return yards and set 5 Super Bowl records (most receiving yards – 193, most total yards – 235, most receiving yards in one quarter – 168, most touchdowns in one quarter – 2, and longest touchdown reception – 80 yards).<\/p>\n

Gary Clark<\/h3>\n

Clark started in the original USFL where he put up 821 yards on 66 catches, in two seasons with the Jacksonville Bulls<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He called Washington home from 1985 to 1992. \u00a0In his 8 seasons, he caught 549 passes for 8742 yards and 58 touchdowns. He made four Pro Bowls in that time (1986, 1987, 1990, 1991).<\/p>\n

Clark closed out his career with two years with the Cardinals and one with Miami. His career numbers closed at 699 receptions for 10856 yards and 65 touchdowns.<\/p>\n

Art Monk<\/h3>\n

Monk begun his Hall of Fame career in Washington in 1980.<\/p>\n

During his 14 years in Washington he caught more balls than any other man in the NFL ever had, with 888. It was\u00a0on October 12th, 1992, that Monk caught his 820th career NFL reception<\/a> and passed Steve Largent to move into the number one spot.<\/p>\n

Monk finished with 12026 yards and 65 touchdowns with the Redskins. He was with the Redskins for all three of their Super Bowl wins, and was named to the Pro Bowl three consecutive times (1984, 1985, 1986).<\/span><\/p>\n

He also played a season with the Jets and one with the Eagles and finished with a then-record 940 catches. He had 12721 yards and 68 touchdowns.<\/p>\n
