What a terrible loss for his family and everybody who loved him.<\/p>\n<p>The Haskins family are inviting people to participate in a moment of silence tonight at 8pm. They hope that others will &#8220;reflect on the memories that Dwayne brought to our lives with his affectionate smile.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Haskins parents Dwayne Sr. and Tamara issued a statement last month:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Anyone who knew Dwayne, knows he worked exceptionally hard to achieve such a high level of success at such a young age. He was touched by so many people on his journey to being a standout athlete and we are grateful to all of them. the pain is unimaginable and we appreciate everyone who shares in our heartbreak.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-hogs.net\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Dwayne-Haskins-RIP.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-271826\" src=\"http:\/\/www.the-hogs.net\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Dwayne-Haskins-RIP-640x640.jpg\" alt=\"RIP Dwayne Haskins\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Tragedy Struck<\/h2>\n<p>Haskins was tragically killed last month. He was trying to cross Interstate 595&#8217;s westbound lanes near the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Broward County. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, he was struck by a dump truck some time before 6:30am.<\/p>\n<p>The former Ohio State University star had been in South Florida working out in the off-season, with some of his Pittsburgh Steelers&#8217; team mates.<\/p>\n<p>He was originally <a title=\"History Of Washington\u2019s First Round Draft Selections\" href=\"https:\/\/the-hogs.net\/blogs\/commanders-first-round-draft-picks\/\">drafted by the Washington Football Team with the 15th overall pick<\/a> in the 2019 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n<p>The young quarterback finished third in Heisman trophy voting, awarded to college football&#8217;s most outstanding player. While at OSU, he led the Buckeyes to a win in the Rose Bowl in 2018 after posting an outstanding 13-1 regular season mark. He also set school, as well as Big Ten Conference records, as a redshirt sophomore. Those records included 4,831 yards passing in a single season, 4,939 total offensive yards, and 50 touchdown passes.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s sad that his infectious smile is with us no longer.<\/p>\n<p>May he rest in peace.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dwayne Haskins would have turned 25 today.
