On this day in Washington history – October 7th, 1962 – Washington beat the Los Angeles Rams 20-14 at the District of Columbia<\/em> aka D.C. Stadium.<\/p>\n

Norm Snead led the way with two first touchdown passes, and Washington coasted from there to victory.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Washington’s quarterback finished the day 15 of 22 with 212 yards<\/a> and a quarterback rating of 129.4. His two touchdown passes were both to End Fred Dugan – a two yard pass in the first quarter, and a 25-yard pass in the second quarter. Dugan led all Washington receivers with 6 catches for 95 yards.<\/p>\n

Bob Khuvat had field goals of 30 and 46 yards, and Washington had a comfortable, and what proved insurmountable, 20-7 lead at half-time.<\/p>\n

The Rams did get a touchdown in the fourth, to draw it to 20-14, but that’s as close as they would get.<\/p>\n

Norm Snead was traded to Philadelphia in 1964 in what some view as one of the most lopsided trades in franchise history. Snead played seven seasons with the Eagles, and had a dismal 28-50-3 win\/loss record. In fact, Snead only had ONE winning season in his 16 seasons in the NFL.<\/p>\n

Coming back the other way in the trade, was the venerable Sonny Jurgensen. Washington’s Hall of Fame quarterback who is still a prominent figure in the Washington Football scene nearly SIXTY years later.<\/p>\n

D.C. Stadium<\/h3>\n

The District of Columbia stadium changed it’s name to Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium<\/a> in 1969. Washington played there until 1996.<\/p>\n
