He was facing up to ten years in prison.\n\nFormer Washington linebacker Robert McCune faces a much lengthier jail sentence. He <a title=\"McCune article\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/sports\/nfl\/bs-sp-nfl-fraud-scheme-mccune-portis-20210907-arloir2ydzgdtin3tr7n4ekqf4-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">could be facing life in prison<\/a> after pleading guilty to 13 counts of health care fraud, 11 counts of wire fraud and three counts of aggravated identity theft.\u00a0The DOJ considered McCune to be the leader of the scheme.\n\nFormer Washington cornerback Carlos Rogers <span class=\"removed_link\" title=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Sports\/wireStory\/nfl-player-carlos-rogers-pleads-guilty-fraud-scheme-74508982\">plead guilty in December<\/span>. He already admitted to helping recruit others.\n\nIn total, fifteen former players have already plead guilty to charges.\n\nJoining former Washington players Portis, McCune and Rogers, were Joe Horn, Tamarick Vanover, Correll Buckhalter, James Butler, Ceandris Brown, John Eubanks, Antwan Odom, Etric Pruitt, Darrell Reid, Anthony Montgomery, Frederick Bennett and Reche Caldwell.
