A former tight end for the Washington Football Team, and their 3rd round pick in the 2013 Draft, Jordan Reed has announced his retirement. Reed was once considered to be one of the absolute best pass-catching tight ends in all of football.<\/p>\n
In 2015, Reed grabbed a gaudy 87 catches for 952 yards and added 11 touchdowns. He was rewarded the following year with a 5-year, $50 million contract extension. He also made his first Pro Bowl.<\/p>\n

After that, it was a string of injury heartache for both Reed and fans. He would spend much of the next two seasons on injured reserve<\/a>, missing 13 games in two seasons.<\/p>\n When it seemed he had finally got healthy for the 2019 season, he suffered a terrible concussion in the preseason. The effects of the concussion lingered for months, and Reed did not play at all in 2019.<\/p>\n Washington released Reed at the end of the 2019 season, and he was picked up by Kyle Shanahan and his 49ers.<\/p>\n The 30-year old tight end caught 26 balls for 231 yards, and four touchdowns<\/a>, in ten games for San Francisco.<\/p>\n Reed’s retirement announcement was reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport yesterday:<\/p>\n Former Pro Bowl TE Jordan Reed is retiring, sources say.
