On Friday the Redskins announced they had re-signed long snapper Ethan Albright, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent. <\/p>\n

Albright has been the model of consistency since his arrival in Washington in 2001. Known for his accuracy and speed on his snaps and solid blocking, he made his first appearance in the Pro Bowl last February.<\/p>\n

The Redskins also continued to shake up the special teams with the release of punter Ryan Plackemeier on Thursday. The former Ray Guy Award winner was inconsistent as the replacement of, the then reigning Ray Guy Award winner, Durant Brooks. He finished second to last in the NFL among kickers with at least 20 punts for the 2008 season.<\/p>\n

That leaves the Redskins with one punter currently on the roster. Zac Atterberry was signed in January and it is expected the team will sign another punter to challenge him for a spot in training camp this summer.<\/p>\n

In another move yesterday, the team claimed running back Anthony Alridge off of waivers from the Denver Broncos. According to the Rocky Mountain News, the Minnesota Vikings also placed a waiver claim on him but due to the Redskins having the worst record of the two (8-8 as opposed to Minnesota’s 10-6), the Redskins were awarded the services of the former Houston Cougar star.<\/p>\n

Similar to Dominique Dorsey, Alridge could provide a unique dynamic to the Redskins in the form of another speedy, small tailback.<\/p>\n

Alridge joined the league in 2008 as an undrafted free agent with the Broncos and was placed on Injured Reserve with a left-foot injury following cuts to form the 53-man roster.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week the Redskins also re-signed cornerback Byron Westbrook, who has spent the past two seasons on the practice squad. His practice squad contract had expired, which made him a free agent.<\/p>\n
