This week the Redskins face the second of four AFC South teams on the schedule this season when they host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football at FedExField. The nationally televised game is scheduled as Homecoming Day for the Washington Redskins and many former players are scheduled to be on hand. At halftime, former Hog Russ Grimm will receive his Hall of Fame ring. Kickoff is 8:20 p.m.

Last week Colts quarterback Peyton Manning failed to top 300 passing yards or throw for a touchdown for the first time in the 2010 season as the Colts beat the Kansas City Chiefs 19-9. The Kansas City Chiefs were the NFL’s last unbeaten team. The Colts have struggled to run the football when they are on the road, and the defense is allowing 26 points per game and 478 rushing yards in three games away from Lucas Oil Stadium. Both of Indianapolis losses have come on the road.

News & Notes:

— The Redskins will be facing the only team in the NFL that has three pass catchers with at least 30 receptions: Reggie Wayne (39), Austin Collie (37) and Dallas Clark (31).

— The Redskins have not ruled out linebacker Rocky McIntosh for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. Coach Mike Shanahan said McIntosh met with a doctor Friday morning and will see a neutral doctor before Sunday night’s game “to get a final evaluation of where he’s at.” McIntosh was only able to participate in walk-through practice sessions on Wednesday and Thursday. “He’s got a chance, if the doctors clear him,” said the coach. “He got a good workout this morning, which is good: good running in, good weight-lifting. So that was a good sign.” A evaluation by a doctor that’s not employed by the Redskins is required by new NFL guidelines regarding concussions.

— Tight end Fred Davis has played in all five of the Redskins games this season but has been limited to three catches. Davis has played an unofficial 37 percent of the Redskins’ offensive snaps (115 of 311) this year, starting Tight end Chris Cooley has played every snap and has 23 catches.

— The NFL fined Redskins defensive end Jeremy Jarmon $5,000 for the hit on Aaron Rodgers during the overtime interception that led to the Redskins game-winning field goal. A league spokesman said the fine was for roughing the passer, Jarmon unnecessarily struck the QB in head area. Had a penalty been called, Green Bay would have had an automatic first down on the Redskins 39-yard line.

— “At the end of the year when they say how many yards you give up, nobody says that equates to wins and losses, The only thing that equates to wins and losses is points and turnovers. We’ve played overtime games, we’ve played great offenses. We’re not playing the slappies of the NFL. There aren’t many of those anyway, but we haven’t played any of those. But we’ve played the elite. We’ve played the best offenses in the league to this point. So, will you give up some yardage? Yeah. Are we happy about the yards, no, But there’s a reason for it: we’ve played more plays than anybody in the NFL, and that‘s our fault because we weren‘t getting off the field early, but we‘re doing a better job of that. But the bottom line is, how many wins and losses? We’ve got three wins, we had four last year, so we’re doing better job. … If we can hold teams down on points, and we win games, you can have all the yardage you want in the world.” – Defensive Coordinator Jim Haslett discussing his feeling about the defense being ranked last in the league in yards allowed.

— Defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth is back with the Redskins following a week away due to his half-brother’s death in a motorcycle accident. He did not address the media during the open locker room period after practice on Thursday. Head coach Mike
Shanahan said Haynesworth will be a game-time decision.

— For the second time in three weeks, heavy rains forced the Redskins to make changes in their practice plans. On Thursday, instead of working outside at Redskins Park the team boarded buses for Dulles International Airport and had a walk-though in a hangar. The Redskins haven’t had a indoor practice facility since Joe Gibbs did away with it during his second stint has the Redskins head coach.

— Dr. Anthony Galea was indicted on smuggling charges by a federal grand jury in Buffalo on Thursday, meaning that Washington Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss may have to testify in his case. U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. said: “There are no athletes charged with criminal activity. They are viewed as witnesses, rather than as defendants, in this case. Any one of these athletes treated by Dr. Galea could be called as trial witnesses.”

Comparing Team Leaders:

The Colts are lead by QB Peyton Manning who has 1609 passing yards and a QB rating of 102.6, he has thrown 11 touchdowns and 2 interceptions compared to Redskins’ QB Donovan McNabb who has 1315 yards passing and a QB rating of 81.9, he has thrown 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

The Colts leading rusher is RB Joseph Addai who is averaging 3.7 yards per carry with 273yards on 76 carries and has 2 touchdowns compared to Redskins RB Ryan Torain who is averaging 3.8 yards per carry with 156 yards on 41 carries and 1 touchdown.

Wide Receiver Reggie Wayne is the Colts top pass catcher averaging 13.6 yards per catch with 39 receptions for 531 yards, and he has 2 receptions for touchdowns.
