The three teams still must pay visits to Fed Ex Field later this season. The Philadelphia Eagles are 2-2 and in last place in the NFC East after Correll Buckhalter failed to reach the end zone, after getting a second-and-goal on the 1 in the game’s final minutes. At 3-1 the Washington Redskins are in second place in the NFC East based on last week’s 26-24 victory at Texas Stadium, and knocked them out of the ranks of the NFL’s unbeaten.
The Redskins and Eagles have faced each other 147 times dating back to 1934; the Redskins hold a ten game advantage (76-66-6) in the win-loss column, in a series in which the teams have faced off twice a year since 1936. The Redskins were victorious in the 1990 Wild Card game 20-6, this has been the only time they have played the Eagles in the post season.

News, Notes, and Quotes:

— Several Redskins are among the NFL league leaders, they are:
– Wide Receiver Santana Moss’s 27 catches are tied for third in the NFL and tied for first among NFC wide receivers. He is also second in receiving yards with 421, throw in the 27 rushing yards and he’s ranked sixth in the NFL with 448 total yards from scrimmage.
– Running Back Clinton Portis is tied for fourth in the NFL 369 rushing yards, he’s also tied for second in the NFC East with that mark. His eight first downs in the fourth quarter in games this season is tops in the league, with a total of 22 first downs he’s third in the NFL. – Quarterback Jason Campbell’s QB rating of 102.2 is the fourth-highest in the NFL and second-highest in the NFC.
– Linebacker London Fletcher is ranked second in the NFL with 36 tackles and first in the conference.
– Rookie Safety Chris Horton is tied for the lead in the NFC with three interceptions and tied for second in the league. Horton’s four takeaways are the most in the NFC
– As a team, the Washington Redskins are tied for first in the league with the Tennessee Titans with a +6 in turnover ratio and they lead the NFC
— Quarterback Jason Campbell has posted QB ratings of 108.4, 112.2 and 104.1. It is the first time a Redskins quarterback has had three straight games with a passer rating higher than 100.0 since Mark Rypien did it in 1991. He is the only quarterback in the NFL that has not thrown an interception through four games, and the offense hasn’t turned the ball over this season. Campbell has 146 consecutive attempts without an interception, which is the second-best mark in franchise history, and ssince last season, the Redskins have gone 253 pass attempts with an interception in the regular season.

— The four teams in the NFC East are a combined 8-1 against opponents outside the division, the only loss came when the Eagles failed to convert a late first and goal last Sunday night in a 24-20 loss to Chicago. That is the best W-L record outside of the division for any of the eight divisions in the NFL.

— “We assume that he’s going to play, ‘He’s been a nemesis of ours the last few years. He’s probably the toughest guy we’ll face all year because he can do so many things. He lines up at receiver and runs great routes. He runs the ball well. … They have a big-play offense. They have three or four guys in their receiver corps, who can stretch you vertically. They have a big offensive line. And McNabb’s playing great.” — Middle Linebacker London Fletcher on if he thinks Pro Bowl running back Brian Westbrook will play Sunday.

— “I thought, ‘You know, this is very old school. I mean, hip-hip-hooray? C’mon, ‘But it kind of fired me up. And (then) I thought … ‘What’s wrong with old school?’ I just enjoyed the enthusiasm that Chuck Knox had when he led that cheer. I sort of just carried the banner, if you will…. ‘It’s kind of a special cheer for special games,” — Head coach Jim Zorn commenting how he came to leading the Redskins in a “hip, hip, hooray” cheer in after the game last week

— Rookie Strong Safety Chris Horton was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for September, cornerback Fred Smoot was the last Redskin rookie to win the award (Sept. 2001). Horton was also named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 2.

Comparing the Team Leaders:

The Philadelphia Eagles are lead by QB Donovan McNabb who has a QB rating of 95.7 with 1100 passing yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions; Jason Campbell is leading the Redskins with a QB rating of 102.2 with 878 passing yards and has thrown six touchdowns and no picks. Brian Westbrook leads the Eagles ground attack with 161 yards on 42 carries and averaging 3.8 yards per carry and three touchdowns, while Clinton Portis has 369 yards on 86 carries and averaging 4.3 yards per carry and three touchdowns. DeSean Jackson is the Eagles top receiver with 327 yards and one touchdown on 22 catches and one touchdown. The Redskins top receiver is Santana Moss averaging 15.68 yard average per catch on 27 receptions for 421 yards and three touchdowns. The Eagles defense is lead by Quintin Mikell with 29 tackles, Juqua Parker leads the team with three and a half sacks, and Asante Samuel has two interceptions for the team high. MLB London Fletcher continues to lead the Redskins in tackles with 36 while Kedric Golston, Chris Wilson, Jason Taylor, Andre Carter, and Cornelius Griffin each has one sack and Chris Horton leads the team with three interceptions.

Complete Tale of the Tapes:

Total Offense: Washington is ranked 14th with 342.0 yards per game and The Philadelphia Eagles ranks 6th with 384.8 ypg.
Rushing Offense: Washington is ranked 11th with 132.5 yards per game and The Philadelphia Eagles ranks 24th with 88.5 ypg.
Passing Offense: Washington is ranked 17th with 209.5 yards per game and The Philadelphia Eagles rank 5th with 276.3 ypg.
Total Defense: Washington is ranked 14th, giving up 315.2 yards per game and The Philadelphia Eagles rank 3rd with 245.5 ypg.
Rushing Defense: Washington is ranked 11th, giving up 92.2 yards per game and The Philadelphia Eagles rank 1st with 53.8 ypg.
Passing Defense: Washington is ranked 23rd, giving up 223.0 yards per game and The Philadelphia Eagles rank 11th with 191.8 ypg.

Injury Report:

Malcolm Kelly (Ankle) is Questionable
Coach Jim Zorn said Thursday he was unsure if Kelly will be active Sunday

Shawn Springs (Calf) is Questionable
Springs did not practice Thursday, and coach Jim Zorn did not seem optimistic that he would be available Sunday

Randy Thomas (Toe) is Probable
Thomas participated but was limited in practice on Wednesday

Jason Taylor (knee) is Questionable
Taylor took part in individual drills and jogged during practice on Wednesday

Stephon Heyer (Shoulder) is Questionable
Heyer did not participated in practice on Wednesday

Marcus Washington (Hip) is Probable
Washington participated but was limited in practice this week

Injured Reserves:

The following players are done for the 2008 season:

DE Alex Buzbee (Achilles Injury)
DE Phillip Daniels (Knee Injury)
LB Matt Sinclair (Back)

Edit: This blog was archived in May of 2016 from our original articles database. It was originally posted by Bernie Marshall

The Washington Redskins will play their third and final inter-divisional Road game for the 2008 season, when they travel to Lincoln Financial Field to face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Oct. 5, kickoff is 1 p.m. ET.
