The Washington Redskins announced the signings of the remainder of the team’s second day draft picks, allowing the team to focus on signing first-rounder LaRon Landry. <\/p>\n
The Skins selected Dallas Sartz in the fifth round on this year’s draft. Sartz, who has taken some good-natured ribbing from fans because of his first name, led USC in sacks last season with seven after recording only five and a half sacks in his previous three seasons. The Granite Bay, CA native appeared in 53 games, starting 34, recording 194 tackles, two forced and two recovered fumbles and 16 pass deflections. Sartz thus far has been wearing jersey number 55.<\/p>\n
The Redskins’ second-day draft choice most often talked about as a possible starter in the NFL is H. B. Blades. Blades, the son of former NFL-er Bennie Blades, seems small at 5-11, but will be learning from one of the best “too-small” linebackers in London Fletcher-Baker. Blades, who became only the fifth player in Pitt history to record more than 400 tackles, can play both inside and outside linebacker. He will most likely be groomed to take over the middle linebacker spot when Fletcher-Baker moves on. Blades has been wearing jersey number 54.<\/p>\n
Jordan Palmer, the brother of Cincinnati Bengal Carson Palmer, joins the Redskins out of UTEP. Palmer, whose listed at 6-5, 231 pounds, played his way out of his brother’s shadow in El Paso, throwing for 11,084 yards on 851-for-1,437 passing. His 88 touchdown passes is good enough to put him 13th all-time in the NCAA annals. Palmer will battle Todd Collins and Casey Bramlet for the third roster spot, but more than likely will end up on the practice squad. Palmer will be wearing number 3.<\/p>\n
Also announced on Tuesday, was the release of former Maryland quarterback Sam Hollenbach. Hollenbach, who was competing for the third roster spot at quarterback as well, signed with the team as an undrafted rookie free agent.<\/p>\n
