On Tuesday, linebacker Warrick Holdman officially signed with the Redskins and was on hand to join the team in the first of 14 Organized Team Activities.<\/p>\n
His arrival adds to the talented group of linebackers already vying for the starting middle linebacker slot, however Holdman also has the versatility to play both outside linebacker positions.<\/p>\n
Holdman – who had agreed to the contract late last week – was heavily courted by the Redskins before the 2004 season but decided to sign a 1-year deal with the Cleveland Browns. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1999 out of Texas A&M, spending 5 seasons in Chicago before being released and signing with Cleveland.<\/p>\n
His participation in this week’s OTA’s reunites him with many familiar faces. While in Chicago, Holdman teamed with defensive end Phillip Daniels, cornerback Walt Harris, center Josh Warner, running back Brock Forsey and cornerback Roosevelt Williams. Williams also spent 2004 training camp in Cleveland and linebacker Chris Clemons had a brief stint on the Cleveland Browns practice squad during the 2004 season.<\/p>\n
Holdman is also no stranger to the Redskins coaching staff, having spent time in Chicago under the tutelage of current defensive coordinator\/defensive line coach Greg Blache (1999-2003) and linebackers coach Dale Lindsey (1999-2001).<\/p>\n
In 75 career games, Holdman has totaled 424 tackles, 4 sacks, 1 interception, 7 forced fumbles, and 16 passes defended.<\/p>\n
