He has been a key contributor on a defense ranked in the top 2 consistently this season, leading the team with four interceptions.<\/p>\n<p>This past weekend, the Eagles Josh Parry knocked Springs unconscious with a vicious blind-side hit. Springs was immobilized and carted off the field before a collectively hushed 91,000 fans. <\/p>\n<p>Springs spent the night at the Virginia Medical Center as a precaution, and was released Monday morning to recover at home. He will likely miss Saturday\u2019s game in San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p><b>Hog Wire Notebook<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Former Redskin quarterbacks Mark Rypien and Joe Theismann were brought in by Coach Gibbs to visit with the players last week. <\/p>\n<p>Brandon Noble was voted by the team to receive the Ed Block Courage award for 2004. Each team selects one individual who recovered from injury to maintain a high level of professionalism each year to receive the award named for the long-time Baltimore Colts trainer.<\/p>\n<p>The Quarterback Club named Cornelius Griffin the 2004 Washington Redskins Player of the Year Tuesday night. Also nominated for the award, were Antonio Pierce, Fred Smoot and Sean Springs.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Cooley was named the Redskins\u2019 2004 Walter Payton man of the year finalist. The award is given annually to the player who has demonstrated an outstanding balance between off-the-field community service and playing excellence. The award will be presented at a press conference during Super Bowl weekend<\/p>\n<p>Cooley continues to grab the attention of quarterback Patrick Ramsey in key situations. The rookie H-back was second on the team last week with 5 receptions for 75 yards.<\/p>\n<p>Laveranues Coles had a career-high 12 catches for 100 yards. Coles gave an inspirational performance, showing the brilliance the team has come to expect since they lured him away from the Jets in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan Boschetti, an undrafted rookie defensive lineman, made his first career start against the Eagles. Boschetti got the nod due to a plethora of injuries on the defensive line.<\/p>\n<p>The Redskins set a <a href=\"https:\/\/the-hogs.net\/blogs\/washington-commanders-franchise-facts\/\">Joe Gibbs<\/a> record for most penalty yards in a single game, with 12 for 137 yards.
