Its worth noting btw that Russell talked about this with 106.7 on Wednesday after his contract with 980 (Snyder's station) end on Tuesday.

At this point, very little would surprise me. It wouldn't surprise me if RGIII has made a few positive steps but the coaches feel he's still very far from being able to start and are more or less assuming that he will not be the starter after preseason or a few weeks into the regular season.

The good news, IMHO, is that everyone — everyone — seems to be on the same page that it's put up or shut up time for Robert. If we are winning then no one is going to be haggling over the details. If Griffin simply isn't going to work out, then it's up to McCloughan and Gruden to work a plan — a plan I'm sure they've already drawn up, just in case. There's no way Snyder will continue to back RGIII or meddle if he has yet another disappointing debut. So I still have hope and am an optimist.

IF this has any credence at all ...

I think it sounds like Scott is in a pretty good place here - this franchise is going to need time to extricate itself from the mess that Snyder created and now he (Scott) has a HC and a QB that might not fit into his plans for building a successful franchise

this is a win win IMO - the HC and the QB better show that they can be a lot better than what we've seen or they are out of here while Scott gets to bring in the players and coaches he thinks can get the job done

it was always going to take a year or two - no big deal

I Like it
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

Far be it for me to defend Dan Snyder, but (if true) he’s justified IMO. You know that item number 1 in the job description to coach the team, was to ability to coach RGIII. I’m quite certain that Gruden sold it to Snyder and Allen that he was the man for the job. Sorry but you can’t come back before the first game is played and say “I’m done”! This (along with the fact that we have a new GM who didn’t hire him) is the reason I’ve been saying that if the Skins don’t play some meaningful game in December, I could see Gruden being fired.

Scott is not that short sighted and he does not care about playing 'meaningful games in December' of this year - he wants to play meaningful games when the team has a good core of players here - players and coaches that do not show a lot of improvement will not be here next season no matter what the record is - Scott is trying to repair the damage done by bad management

Biggest thing for Gruden this season is to PROVE that he's a good HC

the wins may come this season but we need Scott to continue rebuilding this franchise and repairing the damage

I really tire of reading threads about Dan Snyder and all the stuff he does (or is accused of doing) -- doesn't anyone else??

I skimmed the first post, saw what it was and shook my head!

Can't we let it go? Can't we just get excited about 2015 and what Scot has done so far to improve our team?

To me, sports are about hope, fun, and competition - NOT dysfunction and drama!

I think most of us tired, frustrated and pissed about the way we've been obviously misled

hopefully, this is change we can believe in ... however, this is Washington

From THE source himself, and not Chris Russell's unimpeachable one:

#redskins #video Jay Gruden on RG3: "He's Handled Everything Well"

Link to presser:

http://www.redskins.com/media-gallery/v ... 6626ada57e

Quote comes in first few minutes of video. Since Jay is such a straight shooter not afraid to tell it like it is, I assume we give him the same credibility when he's not "taking Robert down a peg or two", right?

Either Russell is bitter because of his contract not being renewed, and is either making this up or embellishing details, or Russell is being truthful and couldn't reveal anything because he was under contract at the time for Snyder's radio station.

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

no worries riggofan - this franchise has thoroughly earned the ridicule by the media on almost every front
all of this trashing and bashing will only go away with clear evidence that things are not the same here

to report that things are going well at Redskins' Park is not near as interesting or as plausible as reporting that things are still a mess and intrigue can be found everywhere - reporters with a positive look at this franchise will be taken to be out of touch with reality

if Griffin is not worth spending time and effort on, it will be very apparent to Scot and the coaching staff - they will move on and the rebuilding process will continue - we all just have to hope that Dan Snyder will let these guys manage things for a couple of years

clear evidence that Dan Snyder is not involved would be a huge plus no matter how many games we win

hopefully we see improvement from a defense that seemed to give up way too many yards and points
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

This is a win/win for Gruden...If RG plays well he looks like a genius. If he doesn't you can bet on it that this report will be brought up again. If Gruden really doesn't think RG can play in this league, it wouldn't suprise me (althought we will never know) to find out he was the "source" for this story. One thing I think Gruden despises it the thought that his job is tied to RG!!

you might be right DEHog but I think that was more the case last year than this ...

at this time Gruden's future here is solely depending on his showing Scot that he's the right man for the job here - Griffin will make it obvious that he can be a good QB - If he's not, Scot and his guys will find another QB as they continue to fix the mess that this franchise has become

If Dan Snyder's still in charge, nothing really matters anyway

There is reason to be optimistic. He's not turning heads, but that's OK at this stage. Competent play would make this offense pretty decent.

as long as Dan Snyder stops meddling and these guys get to manage things, this franchise can get back to respectability again

from the first week of camp it seems there's a different attitude and there's real competition for a roster spot ...

This season, Gruden will get to show that he's the right guy for the job or he will be gone ... same for everybody else here

the NFL is made up of franchises with a whole bunch of BS reporting attached

So why the 180 from Russell all of a sudden? He reiterated that there was at least one person, currently on Gruden's staff, who continues to say Gruden doesn't believe in him and that it's just lip service. So now he's positive and saying be patient?!

cannot wait for Griffin to show that he's worth working with & helping him be the QB this franchise will need when we get things back on track

I think that if Cousins or McCoy were showing anything (even slightly encouraging) they would be getting some praise

I'm not expecting a whole lot but it would be great if we could start to build an offense and a defense around this kid

especially after all the negative outlooks and predictions we've heard

I don't believe a thing coming out of the Redskins camps anymore especially regarding Griffin. Soon we will get a chance to see the Skins play and decide for ourselves if Griffin understands things better this year.

IMO - Griffin will get the most reps in practice and will continue to be the 'starting QB' until he shows that he's not OR until Cousins or McCoy clearly demonstrates he should not be the 'starting QB'

for those that think that Cousins or McCoy should be given more time with the first unit - shut up - every position is available to the player that shows he deserves it more - if you want to be a starter here this season all you have to do is show the coaches that you're the better player

as they say in the movies - "let the games begin .."

This fanbase is has plenty of wise ones. However we have plenty clueless fans as well.

Robert has already shown us he can get the job done. He has my support because he already
Proved it to me. By rewarding me as a fan with a division title and a nice little playoff game. I want
more sure.

Look people. Roberts talent should not be questioned. He made plenty of accurate throws in his
rookie season. Does not matter if it was out of the pistol or not. Look at the Saints game, the 2
Cowboys games. Plenty of accurate throws for the world to see. We all praised Robert.

Now I hear all kinds of people saying is he the man for the job!!!!

You have to think about this. Read the next couple sentences a couple times if you have to.

Dan Snyder hired Bruce Allen. Bruce Allen hired Jay Gruden.

Snyder hires these people. But at the same time the people are getting paid to do a job. Bruce Allen
so far has been clueless up until the Scotty Mac hire which was a huge hoorah.

People I bet you anything Allen tried to hire Jon Gruden but Jon declined because of Snyder
and Jon Gruden recommended his brother Jay Gruden.

Im telling you guys. If we had Bellicheck, Cowher, Carrol or any other experienced coach.
We wouldnt be talking about this BS.

It takes experience to be a good head coach. Can we really afford to be grooming a head coach
while having a young and rebuilding team?
I guess we have no choice this season.

Now some positives. Thank goodness we have Scotty Mac who has filled this roster with upgrades
everywhere on the roster.

Jay Gruden will have another shot this season. But his ego and flexibility bothers me.

What in the world has Jay done in this league? To be totally honest and we all should be you have
to ask yourself what has Jay Gruden done in this league? So far has has given me a 4 win
season for my beloved team! So you bet your bottom dollar he is on my short list!

First off he comes in to D.C. promising that he was the man to get RG3 going. Then
he decides four games in that he wants to bench him!!!!!!!

I have no more patience for sub par coaches. I have been a fan now for about twenty plus years
now. A football fan for over thirty years. So I know when I see a good head coach. Gruden is not
yet a great coach!!!!
He may become one eventually. But he is not that yet.

Robert has plenty of room to grow. But heck what twenty something year old young man doesent?
We asked for character and we got great character QB in Robert. Sure he is a lil big headed.
Probably partly our fault and Snyders.
Heck Snyder built a statue for him!!!! Geeminy christmas Robert didnt ask to have statue built
for him. We did that for him!

Im telling you guys right now. Robert is the guy. He already showed us he can deliver.
Believe and support him. Gruden get your stuff together and have some faith in him. Its obvious
he has the talent.

How can a player who is three years removed from being a rookie of the year all of a sudden
become a bum!!!!

Ill tell you how drugs. Oops not Robert.
Guns nope not Robert.
Partying nope not Robert.
Too many women nope not Robert.

Join a Snyder run Redskins team. Oh that Robert.

I'm a Griffin supporter and I do understand that he has let us and himself down big time

I just want this franchise to be better and do not really care who the HC is or the QB for that matter - it seems to me that it would be an 'easier road' for us if Jay Gruden proves that he's a decent HC and if Griffin can find a way to do what his coaches want him to do

this franchise has been a shambles for a long time and IMO it's going to be frustrating just getting back to not being a huge embarrassment

hopefully tonight, the coaches and players show us that we are headed in the right direction
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
