He'll play special teams first and then as soon as someone gets injured (which never happens to the Redskins) he will be starting.

Re: 2019 Offseason Chatter
Its just a silly statement to make man.. to suggest that Moreland is better then a proven probowler after OTAs is just a reach at best.
We've had this conversation already but I'll indulge ya
Dont get me wrong- I like the kid! I hope he can be a much cheaper alternative to JNo... But dont let his salary fool you, Josh is a leader and great cb. Has he had some frustrating calls? Absolutely! Salary aside... He has shut down top tier wrs, creates turnovers, and plays with an infectious chip. Have we gotten the ROI for his contact?? A case can be made for not even close. But to your point, his contract doesnt reflect his skill level , just what we thought he was worth at the time of signing.
A lot of his troubles have been miscommunication in the back field/ shaky Safety help... Doesnt excuse the egregious penalty flags though.
Can a 7th round rookie become better then a league vet? Of course! Is it likely that on the day one opener this unproven rook is "better" then a previous pro bowler?? Nah man.. He came from a small school and has NEVER faced the top tier WR talent of the NFL... Much less being asked to follow the #1 wr day in and day out.
-Another reason JNo has had ups and downs, we havent had steady CB play behind him so we've asked him to shadow a wr instead of playing his comfortable side.
I think you are basing this off many people saying Haskins is the "best qb" on the team... And part of me agrees with that. He has the highest POTENTIAL but he also lacks what all the Vets have... Experience. Same with Jimmy. Both will have growing pains... But Haskins doesnt have a healthy previous probowler ahead of him on the depth chart- and the only healthy QB is also new to the system. Apples to oranges

You two already *f$ck* up one thread with this argument. Would it be asking too much for you to keep it confined to that thread instead of *f$ck* up this one, too?

Bored of this. Newcomer has to impress, established starter goes along to help the new kids settle.
It's not worth a comparison, let along an argument about it

Re: 2019 Offseason Chatter
Meh... I could've let the tongue in cheek "probably better then Norman" response go... An obvious remark intended to stir up the previous conversation.
But why?
Whay else is going on here? What other news is there to talk about? The thread would have gone cold by now any how... Might as well take the bait!
Its just a crazy thing to say after a couple of sessions in shorts. Funny how no one else has this kid competing for Normans roster spot, only the nickel duties vs the other youngsters... Like I've said.
Hopefully he is better then Rhodes and Ramsey too!!

Well, at least we have some bodies at CB.
I can't remember the starting lineup of our Secondary from
the last couple of seasons. It could be my age, but the constant injuries don't help either.
Looks like we have a better shot this year and
actually develop someone instead of hiring some gentleman packing groceries
at the very last minute before the start of the season.

Re: 2019 Offseason Chatter
Players can get a feel for the speed and the contact of the NFL game without playing every down. Moreland seems to have instincts and those can't be taught. So, hopefully Gruden sees that and gives him game reps.
Josh Norman talking about Jimmy Moreland: "I kneel in the long shadow of his excellence."
Watch out wasn't that Moreland who just flew by for a pick 6 again. Yes Yes it was but Norman was flagged for holding.

Well I hope that works out because his Tackle days are behind him. Maybe he can play where he doesn't have to be as quick or agile. Better keep Wes stretching out during the games staying loose.

Re: 2019 Offseason Chatter
This was the plan all along so why NFL.com is reporting it like it's news is beyond me. We already knew Flowers wasn't replacing Williams or Moses at tackle.
Exactly. He must have been playing Tackle in camp and getting his are handed to him. That must have been where the he was not looking good came from. He was brought here to play guard like you said. I guess he gets first shot at it being a 1st rounder and all. 5 bucks says Wes Martin is stronger than Flowers. Can't be much worse in the agility department either. We'll see

btw I would say that not adjusting is a bigger issue than predictability. If you don't have the guys to run the ball the way you want to, then FFS you have to find something that you CAN do well.

Re: 2019 Offseason Chatter
I think my point was lost...
He would run on first to much- and then abandon it.
We ran a lot when they knew it was coming, and AP would barrel for the first sometimes. Its not just that he ran mote on first then anyone but likely the run play called. The 3rd and longs took the run out of the plan a lot.

Re: 2019 Offseason Chatter
I think with our new speed rusher Montez Sweat making opposing QBs get rid of the ball fast and Moreland's instincts the short window those QBs will have will be easy pickings and Moreland could be having his instincts put to good use knowing the ball will be coming out quick

Haskins looks like he could become a really good NFL QB - hopefully the Redskins don't put him out there until he can play behind a decent offensive line

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Re: 2019 Offseason Chatter
Not a Haskins hater per say but i personally would not have drafted him. Just me. I think we could have done better in the draft and to be honest i like all our picks except not taking a Tackle at some point. Taking Haskins realistically cost us a 2nd round pick next year. I have already explained how this happened but for clarity Sweat could have been the 15th pick and we get a QB in place of Ross P and still have a 2nd rounder next year or we could have traded out the 2nd round pick like we did and got a mauler of a lineman this year as well as Martin because we are still very thin and one injury away from disaster on the line.
I would have taken Stidham in place of Ross. Stidham had no talent around him at Auburn. I don't think Haskins is any better than Stidham. Stronger arm doesn't mean jack to me. Personally I would have traded up to get three 3rd round picks and the final 3rd round pick would have been Stidham just to make sure we got him. I would not have waited to the fifth round. Then take a stud guard in the 2nd this year instead of Ross P. That way we get a 2nd round talent at guard, Sweat, and Stidham plus all the other players we got just by trading our 2nd rounder next year and what ever it would have taken to move up to the late 3rd to get Stidham.
We could have had all the players we drafted this year including Sweat, plus a a for sure bonafide starting left guard and some depth on the line with Martin and Flowers, Stidham, and all the other players we got this draft minus Ross P by trading our 2nd round and 3rd round next year and a late rounder and maybe a player once the draft got to the 2nd round this year so we could have picked up a mauling guard in the late 2nd round this year as well and to move up to the late 3rd or early 4th to get Stidham. That would have been a serious bunch of talent right away by giving up next years 2nd and 3rd to get every player we got this year minus Ross P and Haskins while adding a starting LG talent in the late second this year and Stidham.
We had to pay the cost to make up for all the chitty drafts we had previously and the cost would have been next year's 2nd and 3rd to get back almost right again this year with a good QB and all the other talent we got as well. Remember Sweat costs us two second rounders but really it was Haskins who cost us two second rounders because we could have had Sweat at 15.
But since that didn't happen of course and Haskins lights it up and takes us to the Bowl game i'll admit i was wrong. But not until then and i really want to get to the Bowl who ever is QB.

Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Re: 2019 Offseason Chatter
I don't care who the QB is. Coming out of college pretty much every single one is a high stakes gamble. Fans judging these guys on having watched a few college football seasons doesn't sway me much. TBH even pro scouts and GMs judging and drafting these guys don't have the greatest track record.
We rolled the dice on Haskins. It is what it is, and I'm looking forward to seeing him on the field soon.
Man, I love seeing Redskins fans talk about the super bowl. I'll be happy right now if we could just be a good team for a couple years and not the league laughingstock!!!

Re: 2019 Offseason Chatter
Man... That hindsight is 20 20 draft dream scenario is just covered in ridiculousness!!
BRO- I for one am GLAD you are an arm chair GM... Your scenario for the perfect draft is utter nonsense. You cant take hypothetical equations and apply them to real events. No one knew who was going off the board next, so looking back at when people were taken is worthless- one different move createa the butterfly effect.
We LUCKILY got Haskins as a STEAL @ number 15.. Fact. He coulda shoulda went top 10.
We got a bargain on another top 10 prospect in Sweat. HE and HE alone cost us next years 2nd. There are no buts or basically this or pretty much thats.. It was he who we traded back into the first round for- not Haskins.
Of the linemen tou listed... Big whoop. Noone knows how the future will play out. Fortunately for the Redskins, we have the makings of a true franchise QB for the first time in forever. He has the arm strength that wows, he has the football IQ of a NFL caliber qb, and better yet he doesnt need self confidence coaching like good ol Kirk.
He has shown that he can lead.
He puts in WORK on and off the field.
He is bright and eager to learn more.
He is YOUNG, and Hungry.
He is our future.. Lets see how he handles the duties befoee we cry wolf.
Every case tou make against him can be applied to your boy Morleand... Only he wasnt a 7th round flyer from a snall school that didn't face much talent. But only Moreland is a day one starter better then a probowl Vet??
Funny how your logic only applies to your arguments and are invalid when making the same case for another rookie.

Teams never draft players at positions they don't need to fill? What drafts have you been watching? I'm not even going to get into Theismann. He likes to hear himself talk.[/quote]
Not in the 1st round normally unless it's a near 100% stud that would automatically improve what you already had dramatically. That wasn't the scenario here. Come on now. Keep it real. Were not talking what is possible like aliens landing in your back yard but what is probable like Haskins not being drafted in the 1st round which is a guarantee better than probable. But a steal? That is ridiculous

Haskins cost a 15th over all first round pick.

Re: 2019 Offseason Chatter
Erm.. We need a FACT check here.. Your 'facts' simply arent.. And pure speculation.
Just because he wasnt high on your board, doesnt mean beans bro. You cant speculate alternate outcomes in a parallel universe... You dont KNOW what coulda woulda shoulda happened!
Sweat would have been a reach at 15.. How do I know this?? BECAUSE real life events proved he could be had later in the first. Haskins was debatable the highest floor of any qb. Most boards had him gone in the top 10. Knowing this the whole league likely wouldnt have passed him up for us to land him in the 2nd.
A back up needy qb is also in the mix later in the first- the Pats?
Trade bait.. Some one could have taken him just to get a ROI when someone is hurting for a qb.
This is extremely silly... But fun. I'll dive in a little more to your book in a few

I too wont listen to Joe... The guy made a big deal out of a number he isn't even in control of? Egomaniac who yes loves to hear himself talk LMAO
Here is a link to the flip side to your Joe knows best argument.
Haskins homer? Boner? Brah you are boderline delusional... The only hard on here is yours for a 7th rounder who had a good camp and may or may not become a back up.
The true homerism is your Anti Haskins diharea of the mouth (fingers typing). He was the BPA and even better- at the biggest need for us. Skipping on Haskins wouldve been an idioc thing that only arm chair gm fans would have made thinking they know better then Doug Williams and co.
Did Snyder want him? Probably. Did I? Yep! I watched his bowl game last year and made a thread wanting him AND his HC.
The kid is talented.. Just like Moreland. How you clamour for our summer camp star, but shrug off all positivity concerning Haskins as "homerism" is hypocritical. He is wowing people too. And has a tremendous amount of upside- some dazzling skill sets to boot.
Why you can't get with the program with Haskins, yet will hop on the summer shorts practice hype bandwagon is beyond me... Haskins is our dude. Cost us a first- period. No what ifs will change that boss

Re: 2019 Offseason Chatter
You are spinning off into a new galaxy brother! LMMFAO
Here-
I said- Sweat at 15 is NOW known to have been a reach. Supporting FACTS- we got him much later IRL. (In Real Life)
Haskins cost us- drum roll- a first round pick in the 2019 draft at #15 overall.. Thats it. Fact.
Could he have been had in the 3rd round like you crazily presume? Maybe. Who knows? You dont. Nor I. Why? Becuase it didnt happen IRL. Unless you've seen all 32 draft boards its insane to talk about how far he COULD have fallen. He could've went 16 with a trade. The world will never know.
Hind sight is always 20/20.. But that too is IRL. We soulda took Russel over Rg.. We shoulda took Brady etc etc.. Right now we have 2 top ten draftees that didnt cost us a top 10 pick. DOPE.

So now after all the worthless draft picks we have made all of a sudden they are beyond reproach and arm chair GMs have to be wrong compared to Doug Williams and co . Nah fam.
This board is full of arm chair gms... I for one am not one.
Not becuase I'm above it.. But becuase I dont follow NCAA that hard to know better. I see enough know enough.. And would have been happy with Lock IF Haskins was taken by the bonehead Giants.
I like Haskins.
I like our last 2 drafts- the only two with DW in the room?
You can complain about any pick ya want.. Just saying your virtual reality is not fact based... Where me saying Haskins didnt cost us 2 second rounders is IRL.
I need to edit my posts.. Sorry for all the typos.
But keep it coming! Any action here on th.n is good action!

No.
You are wrong.
Your logic might be sound... But it is wrong.
Haskins (top 10 talent, rated higger then Lock by most all scouts) cost us a first round pick. Fact
Could he have been had later? The world will NEVER know.
Sweat (top 10 talent crazy heart issue rumour had him luckily drop) cost us- 2 secound rounders. FACT
Was he worth it? Imo ya. Does that trade/ move in any universe change what we paid for Haskins? No. But if but if but if... No. Still No. Forever No. IRL
You cant switch the picks and justify your stance then call it factual. Its the opposite of fact, since it didnt happen.
Did we over pay for Sweat? That is your only debate on the 2 second rounders he cost us.
Did we whiff on Haskins instead of Lock @ #15? Only time will tell. Neither you nor I can say anything with any substantial evidence to change the FACT that this is unproven on this day.
You may hope to be right. If it makes ME a homer so be it, but I hope he dazzles and kills the cowboys every year for decades en route to numerous conference titles and hopefully some rings to go with it!!
HAIL YA I DO!!

You know as well as I Haskins cost us two 2nd rounders. Messing up the picks being backwards doesn't change that.
It's the same logic as saying if we had picked Harmon at 15 then traded up to get Sweat that Sweat cost us two second rounders when in actuality we know for a fact it was Harmon that would have been the one that cost us two second rounders knowing you could have got him later. Haskins just to a lesser degree than Harmon. Or maybe not. So on paper you are correct. In real draft value that could have been used more wisely you are not.

Last time we were relevant we had the Hogs !! That is how critical it is to draft maulers on the OL instead of play toys running around with the football. Any toy can run with the football when it has some room. Nuff said. Almost. Ill take that arm chair GM strategy against any real GM or one being paid by some team any day. Real is a subjective term. I like keeping it real as an armchair GM.
Danny call me with an offer in the high millions and I will take you there. Guaranteed. As "I'll Take you there" plays in the background by the Staple Singers
Aint nobody crying and aint nobody worried. If Danny calls that is.

Watch out now what was that? That was Moreland running past me for another damn pick 6. Go ahead Moreland.

We took Haskins with 1 pick.
We traded 2 2nds to take Sweat.
I'm not going to read anything written by someone who thinks it was the other way around just to suit their agenda

Sounds like he thinks he's done all he can over his career so far. Badly mistaken on that.
I'm struggling to think of any highly drafted receiver who's just bumbled along through 4 seasons suddenly to come good and prove worthy, if all too late. I can't name any

Re: 2019 Offseason Chatter
Well well. It seems like there is another great player the Redskins have had play for them from that risky little school James Madison. Guess who anyone?
Gary Clark. Not going to find players much better than him. Also it seems Moreland got a lot of offers from big time schools. Then guess what. They took them back when they found out he only weighed 150 pounds coming out of high school. Learn more about the future starting CB of the Redskins other than Moreland led the country in pick-sixes (3) and is a pick machine here: Watch out.

Moreland is about the same size as Darryl Green. Remember him? Yeah, we all do. If Moreland turns out to be half the player Green was, we got the bargain of the draft.
