With all the QB's still on the board they should wait and grab one in the second.

Both are on the board... Withstanding a trade with ATL we can have our pick- Lock, Haskins, or go bpa to trade for Rosen with a later pick.

I like it

Welp... Careful what you wish for!!

I liked Haskins more then Murray this year. Murray benefited from the same cast that Baker had- and I was just never sold on him. Baker has that Gusto that you can't teach...
Haskins has build and the arm... The rest can be taught

Now we just need to recruit his old HC!

Well, it's Haskins.

This is Doug Williams' power move inside Redskins FO.
He will either be remembered or repudiated for this pick.

Did he just re-draft himself with the Haskins pick?
Is he looking for some kind of validation of his own career with this pick?

The Ohio State product seems like a fine player, but I'm not sold of his adaptability
to Gruden's system. If he sinks, Gruden is gone. This is the new face of the franchise.

I'm betting he's forced to play around week 8 of the regular season,
right around when either Colt or Keenum exasperate the fanbase with an unholy amount of 3 & outs.

There are a few prospects on the board that I'd like the Redskins to consider trading back up for including Montez Sweat and Darnell Savage if either one falls out of the first round.

Green Bay just traded up to draft Savage. ;furious;

Sweat, Murphy, Williams, and all the receivers are still on the board.

Through 23 picks, no receivers, no cornerbacks, no running backs taken yet.

If you told me we'd get Haskins AND Sweat on the first day of the draft and only had to give up next years 2nd?? Id be pumped beyond belief!

So I'm pretty pleased with the FOs maneuvers tonight.
Before the heart (fake) news he was seen as a top 5 bpa in the whole draft. Love how we leap frogged brother Gruden to get him too!

If they can get lucky enough to snag one of the receivers or one of the cornerbacks with their next pick ... [-o<

One point on Sweat: At 6'6" and 260lbs he runs a 4.4 40. =P~

My last thoughts of the night:

I think Drew Lock talked himself out of the first round with his "I'd rather be drafted by a good team and sit behind someone for two years than be drafted by a bad team" spiel.

I think teams are tired of guaranteeing contracts to diva receivers.

I think running backs have mostly lost first round value.

I think the Redskins came away with two top 15 picks.

Getting a shot at a franchise QB without having to move up was big.

The trade to grab Sweat seems OK to me. I'm assuming he was really high on our scouts' board, and in the last few years I've grown to trust our judgment . . . a little.

I'll probably end up eating these words, but it seemed to me like the Giants had a terrible first round, reaching for low-value picks to address team needs. I wouldn't mind seeing someone else in the NFC East suffer from a high-round QB bust, for once.

Ya man I'm pretty pumped actually... I let some of the anti Haskins posts sway my view on him- But most mocks had us trading up and costing likely more then we paid to get him AND Sweat!!

I was all in for Haskins when I watched him play... So to not have to move up and get another steal late??? Im ok with the 2nd rounder equating to 2 top ten picks- next years 2nd will have MUCH less value hopefully!

I don’t remember who said it but when we drafted RG he said if the Skins miss on him it would set the franchise back 10 years. Well here we are in year 7 and we are still trying to solve our QB position. I’m not thrilled with Haskins, why was he there at 15? Seems like a college move, bring in the local kid and sell more tickets. I’m curious if the football side of the house was on board with this? I just felt like we could have waited… I just pray we don’t turn into Arizona…Gruden gets fired, new coach comes in and wants his guy…great QB draft class next year!! All in all not a terrible night, as I said last night at least we didn’t have to move up to get Haskins…I hope everyone was on board with him! Moving up to take Sweat comes with risk but again we didn’t have to give up to much…upside is great on him!
Disappointed but happy for Darnell Savage, really wanted him here to pair with Collins!

In case anyone wants to read what the pundits have to say about the Skins draft thus far:

“The Washington Redskins and Daniel Snyder nailed it,” CBS Sports Network’s Adam Schein said. “This is not a drill.”

Schwartz and Schein weren’t alone. Here’s a roundup of what some other draft experts had to say about Washington’s eventful Thursday.

Mel Kiper, ESPN

“Though I don’t always love these kinds of trades, this isn’t too much to give up for a prospect like Sweat,” wrote Kiper, who had the pass rusher ranked No. 12 on his list of prospects and said the board “fell perfectly” for Washington. “I like what Washington did on Day 1.”

Chad Reuter, NFL.com

“Given the murky future of Alex Smith, finding Haskins waiting for them at No. 15 could prove to be franchise-changing,” wrote Reuter, who gave the Redskins an A- grade for their first-round picks.

Gregg Rosenthal, NFL.com

“If Haskins is a long-term gambit, trading back into the first round to draft edge rusher Montez Sweat was the sign of a team wanting to get better now,” wrote Rosenthal, who named Washington one of his Day 1 winners. “ . . . For a franchise needing an infusion of energy and optimism after Alex Smith’s leg injury — which threw his future in doubt — and a rough offseason, Haskins and Sweat provide hope.”

Pete Prisco, CBS

“I think he’s the best quarterback in this draft and it’s a great pick for the Redskins,” Prisco said of Haskins. “Getting a cheap quarterback to come in and push to start right away is a great move. Love this pick by the Redskins. Like Kyler Murray he’s a one-year wonder, but there’s a lot of potential here.”

Prisco graded the Haskins and Sweat picks an A and B, respectively.

Mike Tanier, Bleacher Report

“Haskins looks like a Snyder or Allen pick, not a Jay Gruden pick,” Tanier wrote. “Grudens like their quarterbacks quick and pesky, not big and pocket-y. So the Skins get credit for selecting a much-needed starting quarterback without trading up. But with better planning and organizational vision, they also could have done a lot better.”

Tanier graded the Haskins pick a B and the Sweat selection an A-, adding “it’s a move with the potential to pay off in the long run.”

Vinnie Iyer, The Sporting News

“Washington fans freaked out early when it was leaked than owner Daniel Snyder would take control of the draft and likely trade up in a bad way,” wrote Iyer, who listed the Redskins among his winners. “Then they saw their team get its desired franchise quarterback prospect by doing nothing and staying at No. 15 and follow it up with a more calculated move to jump back in to get a scheme-ideal edge pass rusher who should have gone in the top 10 at way down at No. 26. Hail to the Redskins’ resourcefulness.”

Dan Kadar, SB Nation

“Washington owner Daniel Snyder got the player he wanted,” wrote Kadar, who graded the Haskins pick an A+ and the Sweat pick an A. “And he did the right thing? That’s weird to say about Snyder.”

Steven Ruiz, For The Win

“The Redskins are killing the draft, and I have no idea what’s real anymore,” wrote Ruiz, who gave the Haskins (A) and Sweat (A-) picks high marks.

John Clayton, for The Post

“The Redskins didn’t need to trade up to get the quarterback they wanted,” Clayton wrote. “Haskins fell to them at 15th overall, as the team read the draft board perfectly, knowing there would be a run on defensive linemen early. Washington should also get credit for moving back into the first round to get an impact edge rusher in Mississippi State’s Montez Sweat at 26th overall.”

Andy Benoit, Sports Illustrated

Benoit didn’t like the Redskins’ moves as much as most of his colleagues, assigning the Haskins pick a C+ grade and the Sweat pick a B+.

“The question now becomes, How soon will Haskins play?” Benoit wrote. “Having such a small sample size from college, he’s expected to be a work-in-progress. Can he be consistently accurate and poised from the pocket?”

I think I generally agree with those 'experts' reviews. It's a few years since we've gone into day 2 with me feeling so positive about what we've done on day 1. I'm trying to hold back from showering the praise as I'm still expecting something to go wrong! Either with those picks, or our picks tonight or just anything in general

Well. Here is the real deal. We could have had Sweat at 15 and Haskins would still be on the board right now. If we wanted Haskins which i didn't but beside the point a deal could have been made today to move up in front of Denver for way less than spending a first round and two second rounders for the same people. Sweat is a great pick. Haskins was still a reach and is going to be no better than a 4th round QB is going to be. But this can't be proven until the season so for now here is hoping Case Keenum or Colt McCoy makes the Pro Bowl.

Jay Gruen didn't want this QB but Dan had to go and stab his coach in the back Once Again. Get out of the draft room Dan!! NOW!!

Who was going to draft him? I need to know.

Answer: No one in the first round
How do i know? Ask Drew Lock who drafted him

They even thought about getting Sweat at 15 but Danny had a owner tizzy fit. Meddling azzhat.

^^^^ I can agree with that, if they liked Sweat they could have grabbed him at 15 and gotten Haskins (maybe) Lock or Finley in the 2nd/3rd round.

Haskins doesnt make the 2nd round- on any board.

Has anyone even watched him? You sound like we drafted a mediocre unimpressive Duke qb in the top 10- oh wait thats the Giants!

Cool to assume the impossible- its just wrong. Just becuase no one took Lock doesnt mean they dont take Haskins. A lot if teams made a run on D and so your board goes the way of the draft when they start getting thin.

Its silly to talk about impossible what ifs man, he was graded higher then Lock by most all scouts so just becuase Lock is at home still doesnt say anything imo.

What do you dislike about him? That he doesnt run around like Kyler? Remeber how well that workes out for RGiii?

He honestly reminds me of Big Ben-

Panic would have been to trade up man.. The kid hasnt even laced em up- I for one am much more thrilled with this pick then the RGiii trade. We stayed put and took one of the best qbs in the draft- how we develop him is what remains to be seen. His deep field touch and canon of an arm is NICE, his ability to stay in the pocket NICE, his size is NICE.
Not sure what you are upset about. He very well COULD have been there where we traded up to get Sweat- so change the order if it makes you feel better and we got 2 highly ranked first rounders- well played imo

I see all theses comparison of Haskins and Jones, as I said in another thread its really unfair. Put Jones at OSU and I bet money his stats would be better than Haskins at Duke. Jones is a better athlete, time will tell who the better QB is. While Haskins may have fallen to the top of the 2nd round he doesn't fall to the Skins in the 2nd round IMO. I do think the Skins could have taken Sweat at 15 kept their pick and gotten a Lock in the 2nd or Finley in the 3rd??

One thing that encourages me about Haskins is that Urban Myer loves to run read option. He has a few really good read option QB's on his roster (I think one transferred after the kid from Georgia transferred to OSU) for him to give the ball to Haskins says a lot about what he thought of Haskins throwing abilities.

Seriously, I completely respect if you're not a fan of the pick. But there's not a person in the world who believes Dwayne Haskins was a fourth round QB. He's been the #2 rated QB on damn near every ranking for months.

I thought about you last night though, man, because I seriously thought we were headed for Rosen! :)

We'll find out what we have in Haskins, but I think it was an intelligent pick and not a reach at all. We came away from the first round with a QB to build around for the future and the edge rusher we needed. Try to enjoy it!

I was good with taking Lock, thinking Haskins would be gone or required us to trade up.

To me this was the perfect scenario and we got the best grade of the division.

Hail ya

Welp, then you choose to feel how you feel.

I can share analyst making a case for why Haskins is the best qb in the draft over Murray. Easily can find support to any narrative with google. No shortage of those insisting we MUST trade up to 5 to get our guy- and we didnt have to! Hail ya!!

Haskins can still move- but I prefer my qb to slide in the pocket as opposed to run outside of it and get smeared by a LB.
Maybe if you watch some of the vids I linked youd see him in a new light.

The what ifs are pointless. What is, is pretty good IMO.

Looking forward to the rest of the draft, hopefully you can too. Cheers

Anything you guys are hoping to see in round 3? A few guys who might be around there that I'm watching

S DEIONTE THOMPSON - Alabama
C ERIK MCCOY - Texas A&M
G CONNOR MCGOVERN - Penn State
WR JAYLEN HURD - Baylor

Really like to see some more help on the o-line or maybe a TE. Still feel like we're screwed at the WR position this year no matter what though.

The more i look into it the more sold i am... Multiple reads, moving lbs and safeties with his eyes, understands coverage, accuracy deep, good size

Not to turn this into an argument about race, but i watched a segment- if he were at Duke with the same medicore numbers, he likely wouldn't be drafted in the first rounds or at all... And conversely since he is black but didnt rush for 1000 yards people are discounting his skill set as an exceptionally smart and accurate qb.

Glad the FO was able to just look at the facts

just saw where Parris Campbell took a bunch of 10 yard passes to the house for Ohio State. Nobody could cover Parris Campbell. He runs a 4.3 forty. No wonder there were so many touchdowns. Terry Mclaurin also ran a 4.3 forty and got drafted in the 3rd by us. Who couldn't throw 50 touchdowns to these studs at WR for Ohio State in a pass happy offense that doesn't even resemble a NFL offense. We have been snookered by receivers who have taken it to the house after the catch. Two receivers with world class speed. Mark Sanchez could throw 60 touchdowns with this group.

The Cardinals just gave away Josh Rosen. Damn Dan you have a head full of rocks for damn sure.
